A couple of weeks back I came across this question, "If you had two extra hours in a day, how would you spend it?" Interesting, isn't it?
In anticipation of more opinions, I passed the question around to a lot of friends but surprisingly majority of them replied back saying that they would "sleep for those two extra hours". Some of them said that they would use it to take up a new hobby, learn new languages or meditate and the list went on. I knew my answer all along. Its just that I was waiting for some kind of inspiration to pen down my answer in words.
Yesterday, while having coffee with a friend, I overheard a conversation on the table beside ours. A girl was sitting with her boyfriend when her phone rang. She asked him to remain silent before she took the call as it was her mom. "Sorry Mom, I am Busy. No mom, not even two minutes, I said I'm busy. GOD! don't you understand. Yes, I'll call. Bye." After disconnecting the line she went on to tell her boyfriend how irritating her mother can be. "I mean how tough is it to understand that I cannot talk everyday. I am so busy. Where do I have the time?" Yet there she was EXTREMELY BUSY having coffee with her boyfriend.
If I had two extra hours in a day, I would spend it with my mother.
Our generation has come to terms with a belief that loving your mother or spending time with her is old fashion or as they say, NOT COOL. Taking out two minutes for the person who spent her entire life on you is 'NOT COOL'. Well then I guess I am that boring and not so cool guy who would spend the two extra hours of my day with the person to whom I mean the world.
How many times have you seen something like this happen around you or happen to you?
You are sitting with your friends listening to music when your phone rings. Its your Mom. You mute the volume and answer the call, "Hey Mom I am in a meeting right now. Will talk to you later. Bye."
You have a fight with your girlfriend and as a result you don't even bother picking up your Mom's call. You talk about committing suicide after a silly break-up because your life is "not worth living anymore". But what about that one lady who actually loved you unconditionally all along?
You are talking to your mom and before you hang up she says she loves you. You hang up as if you didn't even hear anything because "its just so embarrassing" to say I love you too Mom. It is not embarrassing when you get drunk at parties and do crazy things that you don't even remember the next morning, BUT, it is embarrassing to say I love you too Mom.
Ever since I was a kid Dad always told me that the person he loves the most in his life is his mother. He told me that everyone else in the world should be secondary to your mother. The only physical incarnation of GOD. So putting the entire world aside I give my two extra hours to my mother. I would give her a break from her days work and take her out for dinner at her favourite restaurant. Help her with her daily work, just to spend more time with her. If nothing else, just sit and talk to her, discuss her problems or ask her about her day. Make her feel special because she deserves it more than anyone else.

It is believed that God couldn't be everywhere so he created Mothers. Give your two extra hours to your God. Grab a phone NOW and call her. Tell her that you love her even if you haven't said that for years now. SURPRISE HER. You will be amazed to see how just a simple "I love you Mom" will make her day. Enjoy Gods love before its too late.What did you do to make your mother feel special? Comment and let the world learn from you.

ReplyDeletethis is awesome post. mother is everything but sadly not all realise this
ReplyDeletethanks for bringing this up
@Meena
ReplyDeleteThank you :) yes a mother is everything and its high time we realized this.
I will say what Anukriti has already said about your blog's design.
ReplyDeleteAnd the post was beautiful. It reminded me of my formative years and how my dear mother has been the reason for many of my mannerisms. It's true that our generation has mostly lost its marbles and simple love has lost its place as it probably once had.
A tribute to our mothers. I loved this post. :)
@D2
